Samsung Vows to Eliminate Plastic Packaging Across All Products
Samsung Electronics replaces plastic packaging with sustainable materials like paper and bioplastics. The tech giant forms a task force to redesign packaging for phones and appliances as part of a broader 2030 recycling initiative.
Samsung Electronics officially commits to replacing plastic packaging with environmentally sustainable materials across its entire product lineup. The company begins this transition in the first half of the year, swapping out plastic trays, bags, and protection films for pulp molds, recycled materials, and bioplastics made from substances like starch or sugar cane.
An internal task force leads the charge to develop innovative packaging solutions that completely avoid traditional plastics. For mobile devices, this means adopting matte finishes on chargers to eliminate the need for plastic protection films, while home appliances receive new bags made from recycled plastics and bio-based materials instead of standard plastic wrap.
By 2020, Samsung plans to use only fiber materials certified by major global environmental organizations for all packaging and manuals. The company embraces these green initiatives even if they increase production costs, supporting a broader 2030 goal to accumulate 500,000 tons of recycled plastics and collect 7.5 million tons of discarded products.
