Sequoia India Launches Surge Accelerator to Fund Early-Stage Startups
Sequoia India introduces Surge, a new accelerator program that invests $1.5 million in early-stage startups across India and Southeast Asia to solve early funding challenges.
Sequoia India launches Surge, a new accelerator program that focuses on early-stage startups in India and Southeast Asia. This initiative comes six months after the firm closes its fifth fund worth $695 million, pushing the venture capital firm to invest earlier than ever before in its 12-year history.
The program addresses the common struggles of early-stage founders who are often under-capitalized, over-diluted, and forced to spend too much time fundraising. Surge accepts a diverse mix of companies, ranging from founders with just an idea to businesses with existing product-market fit or those planning to pivot.
Surge recruits 10 to 20 companies per cohort and runs two batches each year for four months at a time. Selected startups receive a $1.5 million investment and gain the opportunity to raise additional capital during a final demo week, while Sequoia negotiates equity on a company-by-company basis.
