Series AI Raises $28 Million to Build Generative AI Game Engine

Series Entertainment secures $28 million in a Series A round backed by Netflix and a16z to fund its AI-native Rho Engine. The startup aims to reinvent game development by replacing traditional design tasks with advanced generative AI tools.

Series Entertainment, a startup founded by gaming executive Pany Haritatos, quietly raises $28 million in an oversubscribed Series A round. The funding round features prominent investors like Netflix and Dell Technologies Capital, alongside follow-on contributions from seed backers Andreessen Horowitz, BITKRAFT, and F4 Fund. This financial boost arrives just one year after the company launches with a $7.9 million seed round and acquires the mobile game studio Pixelberry.

The company develops the Rho Engine, which it bills as the first AI-native, multimodal full-stack game creation platform. Unlike competing tools that focus on bug catching or act as simple assistants, Rho handles both visuals and audio to assist developers in building entire games from the ground up. By leveraging large language models and generative AI, the engine allows creators to skip manually designing every asset and instead focus on higher-level interactive experiences.

Series AI positions itself as a modern alternative to traditional game engines like Unity by drastically speeding up the development process. The technology enables rich possibilities for gameplay, such as non-playable characters that haggle with players and virtually unlimited customization options. Ultimately, the startup aims to power a new generation of game developers who use artificial intelligence as the core foundation of their creative workflow.
