Sichuan Orders Immediate Shutdown of Major Bitcoin Mining Operations
Sichuan authorities mandate the immediate closure of 26 suspected crypto mining facilities as China expands its nationwide crackdown. The province, a major hydro-powered mining hub, requires local governments and energy providers to halt all related activities without exception.
The Sichuan branch of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Sichuan Energy Bureau order an immediate crackdown on crypto mining operations across the province. As arguably the largest hydro-based crypto mining hub in China, Sichuan joins other regions like Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, and Yunnan in taking aggressive action against the industry. Municipal governments and major energy providers, including the State Grid Corporation of China, lead the enforcement effort.
Authorities identify and target 26 suspected crypto mining companies located across 15 hydro-rich counties within five cities and regions. These operations face mandatory shutdown by June 20, while local governments simultaneously conduct thorough inspections to uncover and close any additional mining projects. Furthermore, state and provincial energy providers must perform self-inspections and immediately suspend power to any crypto mining facilities.
The government notice emphasizes that electricity companies must enforce this crackdown "without any discount" and highlights the strict political responsibilities placed on local authorities. Officials must demonstrate clear political awareness, guarantee the thoroughness of the shutdowns, and maintain overall social stability. This decisive action follows recent local reports that miners in the Sichuan city of Ya'an already received orders to halt operations for self-inspection.
