Singapore-based startup Musiio raises a $1 million seed round to develop its AI-powered music curation platform. The funding comes from Wavemaker Partners, Exponential Creativity Ventures, and undisclosed angel investors, marking the first venture capital-backed music AI startup in Southeast Asia. Founded through the Entrepreneur First program, the company currently employs seven full-time staff members.
Musiio focuses on reducing inefficiencies in music curation by using artificial intelligence to handle the heavy lifting of scouring through massive music catalogs. The technology targets digital music companies that lack the large budgets of major platforms like Spotify. The startup emphasizes that its AI does not replace human curators but instead eliminates tedious tasks so people can focus on the creative aspects of their work.
The startup demonstrates its value through a successful proof of concept with the Free Music Archive, where its AI curated a playlist that doubled an eight-year play count for one track in just two days. Musiio is now preparing to announce two or three commercial partnerships with streaming and sync companies over the coming months as it expands its market presence.
