Skype introduces a new background blur feature that uses artificial intelligence to obscure messy rooms and unwanted background details during video calls. This addition brings a popular Microsoft Teams capability to the consumer-facing Skype app as it competes with rival services like WhatsApp.
The AI technology automatically keeps the focus on the caller by accurately detecting specific features such as hair, hands, and arms. This ensures that the user remains sharp and clearly visible while the surrounding environment stays intentionally out of focus.
The background blur option is currently rolling out exclusively to the Skype desktop application and does not yet support web or mobile platforms. Users can easily enable the feature through the app's settings menu or directly from the video call button.
