Snap introduces a new AI-powered feature called Easy Lens that allows creators to build augmented reality Lenses simply by typing plain-English descriptions. Available within the Lens Studio developer platform, this tool uses generative AI models to automatically parse text prompts and assemble functional AR objects, 3D effects, and character transformations. This innovation significantly lowers the technical barrier for creating immersive AR content on Snapchat.
In addition to Easy Lens, Snap rolls out several other generative tools to expand its creator suite. The new Body Morph feature enables users to design 3D characters and costumes from text captions or reference images, while a dedicated icon generator helps creators brand their Lenses. Snap also adds hundreds of new Bitmoji animations that creators can seamlessly stitch together using a new blending feature.
These updates arrive as Snap experiences notable creator growth, with the number of Lens publishers increasing to 375,000 and the total Lens count reaching 4 million. CEO Evan Spiegel highlights generative AI as a transformative force driving this expansion, promising future tools like custom animation generators and 3D asset reconstruction from video. However, the company faces ongoing financial pressure following recent quarterly earnings that fall below market estimates due to a struggling ad market.
