Snapchat Introduces Custom GPT-Powered Chatbot for Premium Users
Snapchat launches "My AI," a personalized chatbot powered by OpenAI's technology, exclusively for its Snapchat+ subscribers. The company warns that the experimental feature has many deficiencies and may provide incorrect information.
Snapchat joins the artificial intelligence frenzy by launching "My AI," a new chatbot powered by the latest OpenAI GPT technology. This experimental feature is currently available exclusively to Snapchat+ subscribers, who pay $3.99 per month for the premium service. The chatbot appears pinned at the top of the Chat tab and is designed to act as a friendly persona rather than a search engine.
The company tailors My AI to embody values of friendship, learning, and fun, allowing users to ask trivia questions, plan trips, or request custom haikus. Subscribers personalize the experience by giving the bot a custom name and chat wallpaper. Despite this fun exterior, Snapchat openly acknowledges that the chatbot has many deficiencies and can be tricked into saying almost anything.
Learning from recent issues with Microsoft's Bing AI, Snapchat proactively apologizes to users in advance for potential strange responses. The social network stores all conversations to improve the product and explicitly warns users not to share secrets or rely on the bot for advice. Snapchat invites users to press and hold on any message to submit feedback if the chatbot produces biased, incorrect, or harmful information.
