Snapchat Lens Studio Adds Landmarker AR for Famous Global Monuments
Snap introduces Landmarkers in Lens Studio, letting creators build augmented reality experiences for famous locations like the Eiffel Tower. The update also brings new tracking tools for hands, bodies, and pets.
Snap expands its Lens Studio capabilities at its Partner Summit by introducing a feature called Landmarkers. This tool allows creators to build augmented reality experiences for famous global monuments, including the US Capitol Building, the Flatiron Building, the TCL Chinese Theater, Buckingham Palace, and the Eiffel Tower. Snapchat users near these specific locations can access and interact with these custom AR Lenses starting today.
The company reveals that creators have built over 400,000 Lenses, which users have played more than 15 billion times since the tool launched in 2017. To build on this success, Snap partners with brands like Nike to create do-it-yourself AR studios and adds new tracking templates for hands, bodies, and pets. Additionally, creators receive dedicated profiles to showcase their augmented reality projects directly within the Snapchat app.
Snap also announces upcoming features called the AR Bar and Scan, which are designed to make discovering augmented reality content much easier. These tools allow users to scan their immediate environment and instantly surface relevant AR Lenses with a simple tap. By pointing the Snapchat camera at everyday objects or surroundings, users can quickly trigger context-aware augmented reality experiences.
