Snowflake Acquires Datavolo to Strengthen Enterprise Data Pipelines
Snowflake acquires data pipeline management startup Datavolo to automate and simplify data flows for enterprise and AI workloads. The deal expands Snowflake's reach across the entire data lifecycle.
Snowflake acquires data pipeline management company Datavolo for an undisclosed sum to enhance its data processing capabilities. Founded in 2023 by former Hortonworks and Cloudera executives, Datavolo raises $21 million prior to this acquisition and builds its platform on Apache NiFi, an open source data processing project originally developed by the NSA.
The acquisition allows Snowflake to replace rigid, single-use data connectors with flexible pipelines that move information seamlessly from cloud and on-premise sources into the Snowflake data cloud. Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy states that this integration captures more of the data lifecycle, delivering simplicity and cost savings while supporting both structured and unstructured data for generative AI use cases.
Snowflake promises to continue supporting and managing the open source Apache NiFi project after the deal closes. Driven by surging demand for AI-ready data management tools, this strategic move simplifies complex data engineering at scale and empowers more enterprise users to process their data efficiently within the Snowflake ecosystem.
