SpaceX Completes $60 Billion Acquisition of AI Coding Startup Cursor
SpaceX has officially completed its acquisition of AI coding startup Cursor, according to an announcement on the Cursor blog. The deal, valued at $60 billion, follows an April agreement in which the two companies said they would develop technology together, with SpaceX securing the option to buy the startup. The acquisition moved forward after SpaceX became a public company earlier this year.
Cursor emphasizes SpaceX's massive computing infrastructure as a key benefit of the deal. SpaceX has been renting out that infrastructure to customers including Anthropic and Google. By joining SpaceX, Cursor says it gains "access to the largest fleet of GPUs in the world."
The acquisition is SpaceX's second major purchase this year, following its earlier acquisition of Elon Musk's xAI. SpaceX says it is building the computing capacity needed to scale intelligence far beyond current levels, and Cursor will be one place where that intelligence becomes useful. The company still faces a lawsuit over pollution from its data center gas turbines.
