Elon Musk shares new concept art that reveals the sleek design of SpaceX's upcoming Starship rocket. The illustrations show a polished, futuristic vehicle that currently serves as a visual guide for the test vehicle under construction at the company's Boca Chica, Texas facility.
SpaceX plans to launch this initial, windowless test vehicle to suborbital heights as early as March or April to validate the Starship's core systems. Following these early tests, the company sets its sights on full orbital flights by the year 2020.
The Starship, previously known as the BFR, represents the central piece of SpaceX's long-term strategy to completely replace its existing Falcon and Falcon Heavy rockets. Ultimately, the company designs this massive, visually striking spacecraft to serve as the single dominant launch vehicle for all future missions.
