SpaceX Unveils Official Starship and Super Heavy Specs Online

SpaceX updates its website with detailed specifications for the fully reusable Starship spacecraft and its Super Heavy booster. The massive launch system is designed to carry over 200,000 pounds of cargo to Earth orbit and eventually transport humans to the Moon and Mars.

SpaceX updates its official website with a dedicated section for Starship, the fully reusable spacecraft designed to transport both cargo and passengers. The company reveals that Starship stands 160 feet tall and 30 feet wide, featuring a propellant capacity of 1,200 metric tons of liquid methane and oxygen. With an incredible cargo capacity of 100 metric tons to Earth orbit, it currently ranks as the world's most powerful launch vehicle in development.

The spacecraft's upper third holds the payload and crew, while the lower two-thirds contains six Raptor engines built for both atmospheric and space flight. Starship relies on a stainless steel build with glass tiles covering half of its surface to withstand the extreme heat of atmospheric re-entry. Actuated fins at the top and bottom of the vehicle help orient and slow the rocket for a controlled landing, paving the way for rapid reusability.

Super Heavy, the massive first-stage booster, measures 223 feet tall and generates an impressive 72 meganewtons of thrust through its 37 Raptor engines. This booster holds 3,300 metric tons of propellant and uses grid fins and six landing legs to return safely to Earth for reuse. SpaceX emphasizes that this combination offers a lower marginal cost per launch than the Falcon series and features the largest cargo fairing of any planned space freight vehicle, allowing it to carry fully assembled space telescopes and other large objects.
