Spotify expands its artificial intelligence capabilities by launching a new beta feature called AI playlists, which allows users to generate customized music selections based on written prompts. Available initially on Android and iOS devices in the U.K. and Australia, this tool lets listeners request highly specific soundtracks by referencing places, animals, activities, movie characters, colors, or emojis instead of just standard genres or time frames.
The system relies on large language models to understand the user's intent and then taps into Spotify's existing personalization technology to fulfill the request. By analyzing a listener's history and preferences, the platform delivers tailored results that match both the written prompt and the individual's unique taste in music.
Listeners retain full control over the final product and can refine the generated playlists by issuing follow-up commands like "less upbeat" or "more pop." Users also have the option to swipe left on any track to remove it from the list, ensuring the AI-generated playlist perfectly fits their current mood or activity.
