Stability AI Lays Off 10% of Staff Following Sudden CEO Departure
Stability AI cuts around 20 operational roles as new co-CEOs move to restructure the business after founder Emad Mostaque's controversial exit.
Stability AI lays off approximately 10% of its global workforce just weeks after the sudden departure of its controversial founder and CEO, Emad Mostaque. The maker of the popular Stable Diffusion text-to-image model eliminates over 20 mostly operational roles to "right-size" the business following a period of unsustainable growth.
Newly appointed co-CEOs Shan Shan Wong and Christian Laforte share the restructuring news in an internal memo, noting that the company says goodbye to affected colleagues while providing support during their transition. The leadership shake-up occurs as the company attempts to stabilize its operations under new management.
Mostaque leaves the startup in March to pursue decentralized AI, though his exit follows highly publicized reports that question his academic credentials and his characterization of a standard Amazon cloud contract as a strategic partnership. Mostaque strongly denies these allegations as false misrepresentations.
