Superhuman Backtracks on Email Tracking After Privacy Backlash

Superhuman disables geolocation tracking and makes read receipts opt-in following intense criticism over invasive surveillance features.

Superhuman faces intense scrutiny after a viral blog post reveals that the premium email app uses tracking pixels to collect sensitive recipient data. Former Twitter design VP Mike Davidson exposes how the $30-a-month service transmits geolocation and read receipt information back to the sender every time a user opens an email.

In response to the mounting backlash, Superhuman CEO Rahul Vohra announces immediate changes to the platform's tracking policies. The company stops sending geolocation data to senders, deletes its existing database of location information, and switches read receipts from a default setting to an opt-in feature.

Despite these concessions, Superhuman refuses to eliminate tracking pixels entirely, arguing that read statuses are a standard industry expectation. Vohra advises concerned email recipients to manually disable remote image loading in their own email clients or install anti-tracking browser plugins to protect their privacy.
