The premium email app Superhuman faces intense backlash after users discover its default tracking pixel feature collects highly detailed recipient data. The service, which costs $30 per month, secretly reports exactly when an email is opened, how many times it is viewed, and the recipient's precise geographic location.
Responding to the controversy, Superhuman founder and CEO Rahul Vohra announces immediate changes to the platform. The company stops logging location information for new emails, deletes all historical location data, and updates its apps to remove location displays entirely.
While the read status feature remains available, Superhuman now turns it off by default and requires explicit user consent to activate it. The company also prioritizes building an option to disable remote image loading completely as it works to rebuild trust with the public.
