Tesla hosts a highly technical AI Day event that focuses on the deep engineering behind its Full Self-Driving system. The company shows how integrating multiple cameras predicts the location of surrounding traffic better than a combination of cameras and radar, using the Autopilot software to anticipate where other vehicles will be in the coming seconds.
Later in the presentation, Elon Musk reveals plans for a humanoid Tesla Bot designed to take on boring, repetitive, or dangerous tasks. The robot stands five feet eight inches tall, weighs 125 pounds, and features a screen for a face along with five-fingered hands. Musk notes that the robot walks at five miles per hour and jokes that humans can easily outrun or overpower it if necessary.
Musk explains that the robot leverages the same artificial intelligence used in Tesla vehicles, which he describes as semi-sentient robots on wheels. During the Q&A session, he states that Tesla will not make its expensive software open-source but is willing to license the technology to other companies.
