The breakdown of these record numbers shows that the bulk of the success comes from the Model 3, which accounts for 77,550 of the total deliveries. The combined Model S and Model X lineup contributes an additional 17,650 deliveries, bringing the total quarterly production to 87,048 vehicles.
Following this announcement, Tesla's stock price surges by as much as 8% in after-market trading. The automaker also notes that orders generated during the quarter exceed its total deliveries, meaning the company enters the third quarter with an increased order backlog and strong momentum for continued growth.
