Tesla experiences a highly awkward moment during the unveiling of its $39,900 Cybertruck when a live demonstration of the vehicle's "Armor Glass" goes terribly wrong. After successfully showing off the truck's durability by hitting the door with a sledgehammer, Elon Musk invites lead designer Franz von Holzhausen to throw a metal baseball-sized ball at the driver side window to prove its strength.
The demonstration fails spectacularly as the metal ball cracks the supposedly tough glass from edge to edge, prompting a shocked reaction from Musk. The team attempts the exact same test on the rear passenger window, which immediately cracks as well. Musk expresses confusion over the failure, noting that the glass previously survived thrown wrenches and even a kitchen sink during private testing.
Despite the embarrassing malfunction, Musk simply shrugs off the broken windows, jokes about fixing the issue later, and completes the rest of the presentation in front of the damaged vehicle. The incident adds to the long list of live tech demonstrations that fail at the worst possible moment, and Tesla quickly sets the recording of the event to private on YouTube shortly after the stream ends.
