Tesla CEO Elon Musk reveals that the controversial Cybertruck accumulates 146,000 reservations in just a few days. Interested buyers place fully refundable $100 deposits to secure their spot in line for the polarizing, Blade Runner-inspired electric pickup. This impressive early demand shows strong consumer curiosity despite the unexpected and highly divisive angular design.
The breakdown of these reservations highlights a strong preference for the mid-tier Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive model, which captures 42 percent of all orders. The Tri Motor variant closely follows at 41 percent, while the base Single Motor version accounts for the remaining 17 percent. The popular Dual Motor configuration promises over 300 miles of range, a 0-60 mph time under 4.5 seconds, and a towing capacity exceeding 10,000 pounds for a starting price of $49,900.
While actual orders do not open until late 2021 when production begins, Tesla offers optional upgrades like the $7,000 Full Self-Driving package. Musk also teases future customization options beyond the standard bare stainless steel body, confirming that a black oxide finish will eventually be available. These early numbers demonstrate that Tesla's unique approach to the electric truck market successfully generates massive initial interest.
