Tesla releases FSD Beta version 10, featuring a completely retrained neural net that makes the vehicle noticeably more confident on city streets. CEO Elon Musk calls the update "next-level" as early testers report the system navigates areas and takes unprotected left turns that previous versions simply could not handle. The software even successfully navigates the famous winding Lombard Street in San Francisco without any human intervention.
The update includes several user interface improvements that give drivers better situational awareness. The system now displays clearer lane markings and automatically zooms out the visualization as the car approaches an intersection to show the full layout and surrounding traffic. Additionally, Model S and Model X owners see the visualizations expand to take up the entire instrument cluster screen.
Despite the significant progress, version 10 still exhibits some human-like imperfections and occasionally hesitates when it should take the right-of-way. Currently, this new vision processing and neural net upgrade applies only to city streets, while highway driving continues to rely on the existing production codebase. Tesla plans to merge both highway and city driving into a single software stack with the upcoming version 10.1 update.
