Tesla Releases Enhanced Summon Parking Feature to U.S. Drivers
Tesla rolls out its Enhanced Summon feature to U.S. owners with specific Autopilot packages. The system allows vehicles to autonomously navigate parking lots to reach the driver.
Tesla expands the availability of its Enhanced Summon feature to U.S. owners next week, according to a recent tweet from CEO Elon Musk. This updated parking assist system is accessible to anyone who purchases the Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving option. The rollout follows closely behind the company's recent software update for its Navigate on Autopilot highway driving feature.
Enhanced Summon allows a vehicle to autonomously exit a parking space and navigate through a parking lot to reach the driver. The owner activates the system through the Tesla mobile app, but they must remain within a specified distance of the car for the feature to work. While it does not park the car automatically, it successfully maneuvers around objects to come directly to the driver's location.
Despite the advanced capabilities of this new feature, Tesla vehicles do not operate as fully self-driving cars. The Autopilot system represents a Level 2 partial automation system, which means the human driver retains full control and responsibility at all times. Enhanced Summon serves as another step in Tesla's ongoing development of advanced driver assistance technologies.
