Tesla Rolls Out Enhanced Summon Feature to Navigate US Parking Lots
Tesla introduces Enhanced Summon in the US, allowing cars to drive to their owners through parking lots via the mobile app. The feature requires specific Autopilot packages and keeps the vehicle within 150 feet of the user.
Tesla expands its vehicle capabilities by releasing the Enhanced Summon feature to US owners next week. Customers who purchase the Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving packages gain the ability to call their cars to their current location using the Tesla mobile app. This represents a significant step up from the previous version of Summon, which only inches vehicles in or out of tight parking spaces.
The upgraded system allows drivers to summon their electric vehicles to a specific pin drop or directly to their feet, but it operates under strict limitations. Drivers must remain within 150 feet of the car, and the feature works exclusively in parking lots rather than on public streets. International availability is also on the way, according to Elon Musk.
While the tool offers a convenient solution for retrieving a car from the far end of a lot, its practicality depends heavily on traffic and distance constraints. Navigating a busy parking lot takes time, meaning walking sometimes remains the faster option. Despite these caveats, Enhanced Summon provides a valuable new layer of autonomy for Tesla drivers during routine shopping trips.
