Tesla Unveils Fleet of 20 Driverless Cybercabs at Hollywood Event

Tesla unveils its long-awaited Cybercab as a sleek, two-seater robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals at the "We, Robot" event in Hollywood. Instead of showing just one prototype, CEO Elon Musk impresses attendees by deploying a fleet of 20 fully autonomous vehicles that drive around the studio lot without human supervision. The futuristic car features gullwing doors and uses inductive wireless charging instead of a traditional plug-in port.
Musk promises that the Cybercab brings the cost of autonomous transport down to around $0.20 per mile, comparing the experience to individualized mass transit. He announces that customers will be able to purchase the vehicle for under $30,000, though he expects production to begin in 2026 or before 2027. Additionally, Tesla plans to roll out unsupervised Full Self-Driving technology for the Model 3 and Model Y in Texas and California next year.
Beyond the Cybercab, Tesla surprises the audience with a futuristic Robovan designed to carry up to 20 passengers or haul cargo. The company also showcases roughly a dozen Optimus humanoid robots that walk among guests, mix drinks, dance, and speak in various accents. Musk shares a vision where these helper bots eventually cost between $20,000 and $30,000, although it remains unclear if the robots at the event operate independently or with human remote control.
