TikTok Rises as Facebook Plummets Among U.S. Teenagers
A new Pew Research Center survey shows TikTok has become a dominant online platform for American teens, while Facebook's popularity among this age group drops dramatically. YouTube currently holds the top spot in the 2022 teen digital landscape.
A new Pew Research Center survey reveals significant shifts in how American teenagers use social media, with TikTok emerging as a major platform for youth ages 13 to 17. Approximately 67% of teens report using TikTok, and 16% of all teens indicate they use the video app almost constantly.
While TikTok experiences rapid growth, Facebook sees a steep decline in its teen user base. The share of teenagers who use Facebook falls dramatically from 71% during the 2014-2015 survey period to just 32% in the current 2022 data.
Despite TikTok's impressive rise, YouTube maintains its position as the top online platform among the sites covered in the 2022 survey. These findings highlight the rapidly evolving nature of the social media landscape and the shifting preferences of younger digital consumers.
