TikTok Rises as Top Teen Platform While Facebook Usage Plummets
A new Pew Research Center survey reveals that TikTok is now a leading social media platform for U.S. teenagers, while Facebook's teen user base drops dramatically.
A new Pew Research Center survey shows that TikTok establishes itself as a top online platform for U.S. teenagers ages 13 to 17. Approximately 67% of teens report using the short-form video app, with 16% admitting they use it almost constantly throughout the day.
While TikTok experiences rapid growth, Facebook sees a dramatic decline in its younger demographic. The percentage of teens using Facebook drops sharply from 71% during the 2014-2015 survey period to just 32% in 2022.
YouTube currently leads the 2022 teen online landscape among the platforms covered in the study. These shifting trends highlight how quickly teenagers change their digital habits and abandon older networks in favor of newer, video-focused alternatives.
