Toyota Unveils Woven City Prototype to Reshape Future Urban Living
Toyota reveals plans for Woven City, a fully sustainable prototype city at the base of Mt. Fuji designed to test automated and connected technologies. The company also introduces a new patent licensing program and a funding call for startups at CES 2020.
Toyota provides an immersive look at the Woven City at CES 2020, showcasing a planned 175-acre sustainable prototype at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. This living laboratory integrates automated, connected, shared, and electrified technologies to accelerate the transition of society toward smart urban living. The immersive display demonstrates how the city interweaves nature and technology to free residents from basic tasks.
The planned city operates entirely on clean energy generated by solar panels and hydrogen fuel cells. Builders construct the structures primarily from wood using traditional Japanese joinery combined with robotic production methods to minimize the carbon footprint. Throughout the environment, native vegetation and hydroponic systems blend the outdoors seamlessly into the urban design.
Beyond the city concept, Toyota introduces its IP Solutions patent licensing program, which opens access to its intellectual properties in fields like bio-active materials and thermal management. Additionally, Toyota AI Ventures issues a "Call for Innovation" to provide funding for promising startups. The exhibit also features advanced mobility products like the e-Palette, Micro-Palette, and other electric vehicles designed to navigate the Woven City streets.
