Toyota's CUE Robot Wows Tokyo Olympics Crowd with Perfect Aim
Toyota's CUE basketball robot showcases near-perfect shooting accuracy during a Tokyo Olympics halftime show. The AI-powered machine sinks free throws, three-pointers, and half-court shots with ease.
Toyota's CUE robot makes a spectacular appearance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, demonstrating near-perfect shooting accuracy during the halftime of the USA-France men's basketball game. Standing 6-foot-10-inches tall, the AI-powered machine confidently sinks a free throw, a three-pointer, and a half-court shot to the amazement of the Olympic crowd.
The robot uses advanced sensors on its torso to calculate the exact distance, angle, and strength required for each basket before utilizing its motorized arms and knees to execute the shot. Having practiced over 200,000 times, CUE relies on artificial intelligence to continuously learn and improve its shooting technique, resulting in an almost 100-percent accuracy rate at short distances.
Despite its terrifying accuracy on the court, human basketball players do not need to worry about losing their jobs just yet. CUE lacks the ability to dribble or jump, and it moves incredibly slowly, taking almost 10 seconds to transition between its different shooting positions on the court.
