President Trump approves a new partnership in concept that involves Oracle and Walmart taking a combined stake in TikTok. The proposed deal aims to resolve U.S. national security concerns by moving all American user data to separate domestic clouds.
President Trump announces his conceptual approval for a new deal involving TikTok, Oracle, and Walmart. He describes the agreement as a great development for America that ensures 100 percent security for the popular video app by utilizing separate cloud systems.
Under the proposed terms, Oracle hosts all U.S. user data while both Oracle and Walmart take up to a 20 percent cumulative stake in a new entity called TikTok Global. Additionally, Trump states the companies plan to contribute $5 billion toward a fund for the education of American youth.
This news arrives just before a scheduled U.S. ban on TikTok downloads, which the Commerce Department implements to safeguard national security. TikTok expresses satisfaction with the proposal, noting that it successfully addresses the primary security concerns raised by the U.S. administration regarding its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.
