Twitter Blue Relaunches With Stricter Verification and Tiered Pricing

Twitter is officially relaunching its Twitter Blue subscription with a new review process to prevent impersonation. The service costs $8 per month on the web and $11 per month on iOS to account for Apple's app store fees.

Twitter officially relaunches its Twitter Blue subscription on Monday, starting in five countries before expanding globally. The service costs $8 per month for web users and $11 per month for iOS users, which offsets Apple's 30% in-app purchase commission. Android users simply buy the subscription on the web to avoid higher mobile fees.

To prevent the impersonation issues that plagued the initial rollout, Twitter adds a manual review step before granting the blue checkmark. The company also requires users to verify their phone numbers and prohibits changing usernames, display names, or profile pictures in the seven days prior to purchasing the plan.

Beyond the blue checkmarks for individuals, Twitter introduces a color-coded system for timelines. Businesses with existing relationships to the platform receive gold checkmarks immediately, while gray checkmarks are coming soon for government and multilateral accounts.
