Twitter Employees Quit En Masse After Musk Demands Hardcore Work Culture
A massive wave of Twitter employees resigns after Elon Musk issues an ultimatum demanding commitment to an intense work environment. The departures include entire teams responsible for critical company infrastructure.
Hundreds of Twitter employees resign on Thursday after Elon Musk issues an ultimatum demanding they commit to a "hardcore" work environment. Internal Slack messages show a steady stream of goodbye messages and salute emojis flooding the company's watercooler chat room as the 5 p.m. ET deadline passes.
Musk sends a companywide email explaining that remaining staff must expect long hours at high intensity, and follows up with a mandate requiring managers to meet with employees in person. He also warns that managers face termination if they allow remote work for employees who are not deemed "excellent" or "exceptional."
The mass exodus severely depletes the social media company's workforce just weeks after Musk takes over. Departing engineers warn that entire teams representing critical infrastructure are voluntarily leaving, putting the platform at serious risk of being able to recover from the sudden loss of technical talent.
