Twitter Makes Remote Work Permanent For Eligible Employees

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey tells employees that they can work from home permanently, even after the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns end. This decision applies to most of the workforce, though a few roles that require physical presence, such as maintaining servers, still mandate coming into the office.
The social media company initially encourages remote work in early March as the virus spreads across the United States. Twitter's head of human resources notes at that time that the company will probably never be the same, as hesitant employees and managers discover the effectiveness of distributed teams.
In addition to making remote work permanent, Dorsey states that Twitter offices remain unlikely to open before September. The company cancels all business travel and in-person events for the rest of 2020, and provides employees with a $1,000 allowance for home office supplies.
