Musk states that these extreme measures are necessary to combat severe data scraping and system manipulation, initially restricting unverified users to 600 posts, new accounts to 400, and verified users to 6,000 posts per day.
The limits quickly shift as the afternoon progresses, with Musk increasing the allowed views to 8,000 for verified users, 800 for unverified users, and 500 for new accounts. Shortly after, another update raises the thresholds to 10,000, 1,000, and 500 respectively, though it remains unclear exactly when these changing restrictions will finally lift.
This latest disruption follows other aggressive tactics aimed at AI companies that Musk accuses of greedily harvesting Twitter's valuable data for large language models. Recent actions include pricing out API access and blocking non-logged-in users from viewing tweets entirely, a move that inadvertently breaks tweet embeds across the internet.
