The UK government officially orders all bars and restaurants to close as confirmed COVID-19 cases approach 4,000. However, the government relaxes planning regulations to allow these shuttered establishments to offer takeout services immediately without applying for special permission. Uber Eats capitalizes on this contingency by launching a fast-tracked onboarding process for restaurants that previously do not offer takeout.
To further ease financial pressure, Uber Eats introduces an opt-in program that allows restaurants to receive daily payments instead of standard weekly payouts. The delivery giant also expands the number of convenience stores on its app and waives delivery fees for these locations as well. These combined efforts aim to keep kitchens running and ensure people across the country have access to food during this difficult time.
