Uber Eliminates COO and CMO Roles in Major Post-IPO Shake-Up

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announces the departure of both the COO and CMO as the company restructures following its recent public offering. The executives will not be directly replaced, with business leaders instead reporting straight to the CEO.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announces a major executive reshuffling that removes both the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Marketing Officer positions. In an email to employees, Khosrowshahi explains that progress over the last two years gives him more time to handle day-to-day operations, prompting the departure of COO Barney Harford and CMO Rebecca Messina.

The company does not plan to directly replace these departing executives. Instead, the leaders of Uber's core businesses, Rides and Eats, report directly to the CEO. Additionally, the marketing, communications, and policy departments combine into a single unified division under former VP Jill Hazelbaker.

It remains unclear exactly how this leadership consolidation affects the everyday experience of riders and delivery customers. However, the structural changes clearly signal a shift in corporate strategy as Uber navigates its new reality as a publicly traded company.
