Ugreen's HomeAgent Combines NAS, Local AI, and Smart Home Control in One Box
Ugreen, a company best known for power banks, chargers, and NAS storage devices, is entering the smart home market with its new HomeAgent platform, announced this week at the IFA tech show. The system combines security camera storage, on-device AI, and smart home control in a single hub, managed by a new voice assistant called Uliya. Ugreen promises that everything runs locally, keeping data private and avoiding monthly subscription fees.
At the center of the HomeAgent platform is a hub that acts as the brain of the smart home, running a local-first AI that users can interact with using natural language through Uliya. The platform offers three hub configurations, each storing all data locally and processing video footage on-device. The lineup tops out with a $9,999 version powered by an Nvidia Jetson Thor chip, though lower-cost options offer the same local-first approach at more accessible prices.
The move signals a growing trend of tech companies betting on local processing as a selling point for privacy-conscious smart home buyers. While the upfront costs are higher than cloud-based alternatives, Ugreen positions the absence of subscription fees and the promise of local data control as compelling trade-offs. The HomeAgent platform represents one of the most ambitious attempts yet to merge NAS storage, AI, and smart home automation into a single product ecosystem.
