Ukrainian Government Websites and Major Banks Face Renewed DDoS Attacks

A massive DDoS attack currently targets multiple Ukrainian government agencies and the country's two largest state-owned banks, knocking critical services offline. The affected government sites include the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Internal Affairs, as well as the Security Service and the Cabinet of Ministers. Simultaneously, internet watchdog NetBlocks confirms that Privatbank and Oschadbank experience severe outages due to the overwhelming traffic.
The State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection of Ukraine states that some of these attacked information systems are completely unavailable or work intermittently. Ukrainian national cybersecurity agencies actively work to counter the ongoing attacks, collect data, and analyze the situation. This current wave of disruptions follows a similar series of DDoS incidents that impacted Ukrainian military and banking sites just last week.
Western intelligence agencies directly link these cyberattacks to Russia's Main Directorate of the General Staff, commonly known as the GRU. The White House reports seeing known GRU infrastructure transmitting high volumes of communication to Ukrainian IP addresses, while the UK government similarly points fingers at Russian military hackers. US officials warn that while these DDoS attacks cause limited operational impact, they serve as groundwork for potentially more disruptive cyber operations.
