The United States earns 44.2 points out of 100 to take the top spot, driven by clear leadership in talent, research, development, and hardware. China follows closely with 32.3 points by dominating the adoption and data categories, leveraging its central government's ability to gather massive amounts of data and champion specific AI initiatives. The European Union trails in third place with just 23.5 points, failing to lead in any of the six measured categories.
Experts warn that falling behind in artificial intelligence poses a serious threat to a region's economic and national security. Although the European Union possesses a strong talent pool and an active research community, it struggles to translate those assets into actual AI development and adoption. Without a major push to supercharge its current AI initiatives, the European Union faces the risk of falling further behind the United States and China in the coming decades.
