The streaming app works by connecting to a Mac, Windows, or Linux computer on the user's local network, with the host computer handling all the heavy processing. Because touchscreen controls do not work well for most PC games, players need to connect a compatible controller, such as a Made for iPhone-certified gamepad or Valve's own Steam Controller.
To achieve the best possible streaming experience, Valve recommends hardwiring the host computer directly to the user's router with an Ethernet cable. Additionally, the iOS device needs to connect to the 5GHz band of the local Wi-Fi network to ensure the connection remains fast and stable enough for smooth gameplay.
