Verily Shares Free COVID-19 Testing Toolkit to Aid Community Expansion
Alphabet's Verily releases a comprehensive guide for setting up community drive-through COVID-19 testing sites based on its California experience.
Alphabet's Verily health subsidiary significantly expands its California COVID-19 testing program, increasing completed tests from around 1,200 to over 3,700 in just a few days. With the help of 1,000 new volunteers from Google and other Alphabet companies, Verily currently operates four drive-up testing sites across the state. Now, the company aims to multiply its impact by sharing the operational knowledge it gains during this rapid two-week rollout.
Verily releases a free community testing toolkit that provides detailed guidelines for organizations wanting to establish their own drive-through testing locations. Developed in partnership with the California Department of Public Health and Stanford Medicine, the downloadable resource includes essential workflow documents, personal protective equipment requirements, and staff deployment strategies. The package even features complete, ready-to-print signage kits to help new sites navigate the logistical challenges of mobile testing.
While Verily continues to scale its own testing capabilities and launch new locations, this toolkit serves as a force multiplier to spread best practices faster than a single organization can deploy sites. However, users of these resources still need significant access to specialized materials, including qualified laboratories, testing supplies, and healthcare professionals. Despite these high barriers to entry, the open-source guide offers invaluable ground-level intelligence for groups navigating the complexities of pandemic response.
