Viasat Details KA-SAT Cyber Attack That Disrupted European Broadband
Viasat reports that a deliberate cyber attack on February 24 partially interrupted its KA-SAT consumer broadband service across Europe. The company states that no user data was compromised and the network is now fully stabilized.
Viasat confirms that a deliberate cyber attack on February 24 causes a partial interruption of its KA-SAT consumer broadband service. The incident impacts several thousand customers in Ukraine and tens of thousands of fixed broadband users across Europe, though the majority of the network remains unaffected.
The attack targets a specific consumer-oriented partition of the KA-SAT network that operates under the Tooway brand and is managed by Eutelsat subsidiary Skylogic. Viasat clarifies that its directly managed mobility and government users on KA-SAT, as well as all other Viasat networks worldwide, experience no disruptions.
Network stabilization efforts begin immediately and restore full service within several days. Viasat partners with Mandiant, law enforcement, and international government agencies for an ongoing investigation, noting that the attack intends to disrupt service and does not compromise any end-user data or personal equipment.
