Virgin Hyperloop achieves a major milestone by successfully completing the first passenger test of its high-speed transportation system at the DevLoop test site in Las Vegas, Nevada. Company executives Josh Giegel and Sara Luchian ride inside the pod, which reaches speeds of up to 172 kilometers per hour during the historic November 8 test.
The transportation system relies on magnetic levitation technology to float and propel vehicles through pressurized tubes using electric propulsion. Unlike traditional high-speed trains that run on tracks, Hyperloop pods travel inside enclosed tubes, a design that aims to greatly reduce friction and allow for ultra-fast travel in the future.
This landmark event follows more than 400 previous uncrewed tests conducted by the company at the Nevada facility. Virgin Hyperloop leadership describes the achievement as the debut of the first new mode of mass transportation in over a century, marking a significant step forward for the futuristic travel concept.
