Volkswagen Brings ChatGPT Voice Assistant to US Vehicles Starting September 6
Volkswagen is expanding its AI-powered voice assistant to the United States, allowing drivers to interact with a ChatGPT-based chatbot in select 2024 and 2025 models. While most new vehicles will require a paid subscription, specific electric models include three years of free access.
Volkswagen is bringing its ChatGPT-integrated voice assistant to the United States after initially excluding the market from its January 2024 announcement. The automaker is launching its Plus Speech with AI feature, which relies on Cerence’s Chat Pro product and a large language model from OpenAI, to give drivers a more conversational in-car experience.
The rollout begins on September 6 with the 2025 Jetta and Jetta GLI models, as well as 2024 ID.4 vehicles that feature an 82-kWh battery. As additional 2025 models enter the US market, Volkswagen plans to make this AI chatbot available across most of its new vehicle lineup.
Customers who want to use the advanced AI features need to sign up for a subscription. However, Volkswagen offers a notable exception for buyers of its ID.4 and ID. Buzz electric vehicles, who receive three years of complimentary access to the ChatGPT-powered assistant.
