Volkswagen Considers Production for Playful All-Electric ID Buggy

Volkswagen brings a cheerful, beach-ready spirit to its electric future with the ID Buggy concept, a modern take on the classic 1960s Meyers Manx. The open-air vehicle features no roof or doors, offering a simple and uncluttered driving experience that stands taller and rides much quieter than its gas-powered predecessor. It provides a smooth and effortless journey along sandy coastlines and sunny dunes.
This prototype serves as a vibrant showcase for Volkswagen's modular electric drive toolkit chassis, known as the MEB platform. The flexible matrix of common parts makes producing electric vehicles more efficient and cost-effective, forming the foundation for the upcoming ID brand. While certain MEB-based concepts like the ID Crozz and ID Buzz are officially heading to production, the ID Buggy remains off the main manufacturing track for now.
Despite its current status as a concept, there is still hope for the ID Buggy to reach consumers. Volkswagen confirms it is already in talks with at least one external company to potentially bring the buggy into production. If these discussions succeed, the delightful electric dune buggy could eventually become a real-world addition to the automaker's growing electric lineup.
