Volkswagen Unveils ID. Space Vizzion Electric Wagon for U.S. Market
Volkswagen introduces the ID. Space Vizzion, an all-electric concept wagon built on its MEB platform that could reach U.S. showrooms by 2022. The vehicle offers up to 300 miles of range and highlights the automaker's push to sell 1 million electric vehicles annually by 2025.
Volkswagen reveals the ID. Space Vizzion, a new all-electric concept wagon that could enter production in Europe and North America by 2022. This vehicle is the seventh concept to utilize Volkswagen's MEB platform, a flexible modular system designed to make electric vehicle production more efficient and cost-effective. The debut supports the automaker's ambitious goal of selling 1 million electric vehicles annually by 2025, following the recent production unveil of the ID. 3.
The concept features a rear-mounted 275-horsepower motor and an 82 kilowatt-hour battery pack that delivers a range of up to 300 miles under the WLTP cycle. Buyers have the option to add a second motor for all-wheel drive capability, which increases the total output to 355 horsepower. The interior currently holds four seats with a large fold-out center console equipped with storage areas, drink holders, and USB-C ports, though a production version with three rear seats remains a possibility.
Inside the cabin, a centrally located infotainment system relies on touch-activated surfaces for media and phone functions, drawing comparisons to the Tesla Model 3. Despite various descriptive labels used during its unveiling at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles, the ID. Space Vizzion is fundamentally a wagon. Scott Keogh, CEO of Volkswagen of America, confirms that a vehicle closely resembling this concept is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. market.
