Walmart Adds Paramount+ Streaming to Compete with Amazon Prime
Walmart is bundling Paramount+ with its Walmart+ membership to better rival Amazon Prime. The perk aims to boost stagnant subscription numbers for the retailer's membership program.
Walmart partners with Paramount Global to bring Paramount+ to its Walmart+ members as a new membership perk. This move directly challenges Amazon Prime, which includes Prime Video as part of its own subscription package. Walmart confirms the deal but keeps the annual membership price at $98 despite adding this new entertainment benefit.
The partnership grants Walmart+ subscribers access to the Paramount+ Essential Plan at no extra cost, which typically runs $4.99 per month. Walmart plans to roll out this streaming access in September. This addition joins a growing list of Walmart+ perks that already includes free same-day delivery, fuel discounts, and a free six-month Spotify Premium trial.
This streaming bundle serves as a strategic effort to revive lagging Walmart+ subscription numbers. Recent data shows that Walmart+ membership plateaus at around 11 million U.S. customers with no growth so far in 2022. By offering a major streaming service, Walmart hopes to attract new subscribers and compete more effectively in the crowded membership market.
