While Walmart does not enforce this request with a strict ban, CEO Doug McMillon states that the sight of armed individuals creates an uncomfortable atmosphere for many customers and employees.
The decision comes after tragic shootings occur at Walmart locations in El Paso, Texas, and Southaven, Mississippi. McMillon notes that the company previously avoided taking a strong political stance on gun control, but the escalating frequency of these incidents forces a change in perspective. Walmart also urges Congress to take action on background checks and reconsider the sale of certain weapons to civilians.
