The two companies work together to design and engineer self-driving Jaguar I-PACE vehicles specifically for Waymo's driverless transportation service. This collaboration aims to make cars safer, free up people's valuable time, and improve mobility for everyone.
Testing of the Waymo-equipped Jaguar I-PACE begins later in 2018, with the vehicles officially joining Waymo's driverless fleet in 2020. On-road testing allows engineers from both companies to capture real-world data to refine the technology and deliver optimum safety and reliability.
The partnership involves a massive scale-up, with up to 20,000 I-PACEs scheduled to be built in the first two years of production. These autonomous electric vehicles will be available to riders of Waymo's driverless service, ultimately serving a potential one million trips per day.
