Waymo and Lyft Join Forces to Launch Robotaxis in Phoenix
Waymo integrates ten self-driving vehicles into the Lyft app to expand its commercial robotaxi service in Phoenix.
Waymo partners with Lyft to bring self-driving vehicles onto the ride-hailing network in Phoenix as the company expands its commercial robotaxi service. Waymo adds 10 of its self-driving vehicles onto the Lyft platform over the next few months. Once active, Lyft users in the area have the option to select a Waymo directly from the Lyft app for eligible rides.
This collaboration allows Waymo to introduce its autonomous driving technology to a broader audience, providing many users with their first ride in a self-driving vehicle. The partnership operates similarly to Lyft’s existing relationship with Aptiv, which successfully provides paid autonomous rides in Las Vegas through the ride-hailing app.
Waymo actively ramps up its autonomous ride-hailing network in Phoenix after recently making its Waymo One service more widely available on the Google Play store. By integrating with Lyft, Waymo bypasses the need for riders to download a separate application and accelerates its push toward mainstream adoption of self-driving transportation.
